Budget Cut to Size Coir Matting - PVC Backed

From £17.00

This coir matting is a low-cost option, recommended for low traffic areas or temporary use.
Coir fibres are hardwearing with a strong brushing action to remove dried dirt from shoes helping to protect your floors.
Cut to size is best to ensure a perfect fit for your matwell/recess.

The main difference between other grades of coir is the lower density of coir fibres packed into the PVC backing. It's a great value for money option for when budget rules out our premium made coir mat.

Further Information

For deeper mat wells simply place piece of plywood, or something similar, of the appropriate thickness into the base of the mat well and place the mat on top. Ideally the top of the bristles should sit flush with the floor to minimise the risk of tripping. PVC Backed Coir Matting (cut to size) is best used indoors.

For outdoor use, a better option is to go for woven-backed coconut matting, but as coir is a natural material this should still be under a sheltered porch. If your mat is outdoors and uncovered, we would recommend an outdoor synthetic coir option.

As coir matting experts, we offer a choice of 3 coir grades with a range of thickness to meet your individual needs. Out coir matting ranges from Heavy-Duty Commercial Grade Coir to Budget Coir Matting.
Whatever coir matting thicknesses you need, we've got you covered.

FAQs

Here is a list of frequently asked questions about budget cut-to-size coir matting.

Can coir mats be cut to size?

Yes, coir mats can indeed be cut to the desired size, to suit your specific requirements. Natural coir fibres, derived from coconut husks, are highly adaptable and durable, making them ideal for custom-sized mats. When cutting coir mats, it is essential to use a sharp Stanley Knife and a straight edge to ensure a clean cut. We recommend our bespoke cutting service, for a professionally tailored fit. Whatever size coir matting cut you need, we can provide

How do you cut and fit coir matting?

To cut coir matting, first measure the area where you intend to place the entrance matting. Lay the coir mat face up over the top of the mat well, lift each side of the mat and run chalk along the edge of the mat well coating it thoroughly with the chalk. Let the mat drop back onto the chalked edges to mark the backing of the mat. Lift the coir mat away from the well, turn it over and using a sharp Stanley Knife and straight edge, cut the PVC backing just inside the chalk mark (about 1-2mm). Now cut to size, the mat should drop straight back in to the mat well. For the best results, it is always advisable to ask Coir Mats to cut your mats precisely to size, ensuring a professional finish and the perfect fit for your space.

Does coir matting need underlay?

Coir matting typically does not require an underlay. Cut to size coir is best used in a mat well, meaning there is no risk of slip or movement as the sides of the mat well will hold the mat in place. If your mat well is deeper than the coir mat thickness, we recommend using something like plywood or similar to raise the coir mat up to size.

How do you stick down coir matting?

You should not use any adhesives when fitting your new coir mat. Once cut to the correct size, your coir mat will slot straight into the mat well and will not move. Coir is a dense and heavy product, meaning it is not likely to budge. The sides of the mat well will also help to keep the mat in place. If the PVC backed coir matting is fitted using any adhesives, you will risk damaging the mat and your flooring.
