Premium Cut to Size Coir Matting - PVC Backed
Our Premium PVC Backed Coir Matting is the matting that we recommend for use in your home. To be installed indoors and in a matwell/recess, this PVC-backed coir comes in the widest range of thicknesses; from 14mm up to 30mm.
It is hard-wearing, absorbent and long-lasting. The coir fibres have a strong brushing action to remove dirt from surrounding floor and shoes helping to protect your floors.
Fitting:
This premium quality coir matting is easy to trim to a perfect fit with a sharp knife. For deeper mat wells simply put a piece of plywood of the appropriate thickness into the well and place the mat on top. Ideally, the top of the bristles should lie flush with a straight edge of the floor to minimise the risk of tripping.
If in doubt all our orders are sent with a care and fitting guide.
Usage:
PVC Backed Coir Matting (cut to size) should only be used indoors and in a matwell/recess. For outdoor use, a better option is to go for a woven-backed mat, but only under a sheltered porch.

Coir Matting Thicknesses
Let's talk about the importance of considering thickness when you buy coir matting.
1. Budget Coir Matting: This is the most cost-effective option, suitable for light to moderate foot traffic and ideal for residential use. Our Budget coir mats come in a thickness of about 17mm or 24mm and are made from natural coir fibres, which provide effective dirt and moisture absorption. However, they are less dense compared to other materials or higher-end options and have a relatively coarse texture, and are better used in areas as a temporary option, or lower costs alternative.
2. Premium Coir Matting: Designed for areas with moderate to high foot traffic, premium coir coconut matting combines functionality with appearance. These mats are available in the widest range of thicknesses from 14mm up to 30mm, to suit a range of mat well/recesses. They are equipped with a tougher PVC or rubber backing that enhances their stability and durability. There are more coir fibres per square cm than the budget range, which improves their effectiveness at trapping dirt and gives them a refined look suitable for residential settings.
3. Heavy-Duty Commercial Coir Matting: Tailored for high-traffic commercial environments, these mats are DDA compliant and wheelchair friendly, along-side being the most robust option. They can be up to 24mm thick, offering maximum durability and moisture retention capabilities. Heavy-duty mats often come with a reinforced rubber backing that provides the mat's durability with extra strength and ensures they withstand the demands of areas like shopping centres and large office spaces. This backing also helps to maintain the mat's shape over time and prevents curling at the edges. This is the ideal option to make the best first impression for your business.
FAQs
We've done what we can to answer some of your questions about our premium cut-to-size coir matting.
Are there different qualities of coir matting?
Yes, coir matting is available in a range of qualities to suit different requirements and budgets. At Coir Mats, we offer three primary types of coir mats: budget, premium, and heavy-duty commercial, each with distinctive features tailored to specific uses and foot traffic conditions.
Each type of coir matting thickness is designed to meet specific levels of foot traffic and wear, with differences in backing material and density of the coir fibres ensuring that there is a suitable coir mat for every situation. Whether it's for home or commercial use, the right coir mat can significantly enhance the cleanliness and appearance of any space.
How long does coir matting last?
The lifespan of premium cut-to-size coir matting primarily depends on the location and the amount of foot traffic it endures. Typically, when placed in the correct indoor environments in a matwell/recess or areas with moderate foot traffic, premium coir mats can last several years. These mats are created with high-quality, densely tufted coir natural fibres that ensure sustained performance. Regular maintenance, such as cleaning stains with a stiff brush, and prompt removal of moisture to avoid saturation, can further extend their life. Use a cleaning powder instead of a liquid solution. Remember not to vacuum coir matting as it can unravel the coir. Overall, premium coir matting represents a durable and stylish choice for both homes and businesses.
How do you cut and fit coir matting?
For maximum precision and ease, it is advisable to have your coir matting cut to size by Coir Mats. This ensures that the coir matting cut fits perfectly into the space intended, eliminating any need for adjustments on your part. Once you receive your custom-sized coir mat, the fitting process is straightforward. Begin by ensuring the area where the mat will be placed is clean and dry. Lay the mat flat on the floor. You might need an adhesive in certain areas, but consult us about this. For recessed wells, simply drop the mat into place. It's important to ensure the mat lies flat against all edges of the well to prevent tripping and to maximise efficiency in trapping dirt.
