Green Coir Matting - Cut to Size

From £23.50

Green 17mm thick PVC-backed coloured coir matting. Hardwearing, absorbent, long-lasting, green coir matting has a strong brushing action to remove dirt from shoes helping to protect your floors. Made from coconut husks, this coloured coir matting is excellent for indoor use or in a mat well and very easy to trim with a sharp knife.

For mat wells deeper than 17mm simply put a piece of plywood of the appropriate length and thickness into the well and place the mat on top. Ideally, the top of the bristles should lie flush with the floor to minimise the risk of tripping.

If you would like to see the colour before ordering then we strongly advise ordering a sample.

Further Information

Our Coloured Coir Matting is best used indoors, where the colour can be chosen to complement your décor to give a very stylish finish. We do not recommend using a PVC backing finish coir outdoors where it may get wet, the colour may possibly run. For use under covered porches, a better option is to go for a woven-backed coir mat.

Please note all coloured PVC-backed coir are produced from natural un-dyed coir (coconut fibres), these fibres are brown in colour. The coir is then dyed with the desired colour. As there are differences in the various coir fibres, this does mean that the dye can take in varying amounts to the fibres. This is just the nature of the natural fibres, and something we are unable to control.

FAQs

We've tried to answer some important questions about our green coir matting.

What are the benefits of a coir doormat?

A coir doormat offers three key benefits:

  • It is highly effective at scraping dirt and moisture from shoes, thanks to the rough texture of coir fibres.
  • Coir is naturally resistant to mould and bacteria when used in the correct area, ensuring its longevity, even with heavy foot traffic.
  • Coir mats are eco-friendly, made from renewable coconut husk fibres, and are biodegradable.

These properties make coir doormats a durable, sustainable, and efficient choice for keeping your home clean and making a fantastic first impression.

What happens to coir when it gets wet?

When coir matting gets wet, it retains its effectiveness at scraping dirt due to its durable fibres. However, if coir matting becomes oversaturated through its PVC backing, it can get ruined and start to rot. To prevent this, it is recommended to keep coir matting inside. This will protect it from excessive rain, ensuring its longevity and continued performance in keeping your entranceway clean and inviting. Proper care and maintenance will extend the life of your coir matting.

Can you put a coir mat in the washing machine?

No, you should not put a coir mat in the washing machine. For maintenance, follow this advice:

  • Let mud and wet dirt stains dry before removing them with a stiff brush.
  • Chewing gum can be removed with a freeze spray.
  • Avoid vacuuming, as this can unravel the coir fibres, causing damage.
  • Use a brush attachment if necessary. Coir matting is very absorbent so it should not be saturated. Instead, use dry foam or cleaning powder for stubborn marks.
  • Avoid solvents, as they can damage the PVC backing and coir fibres.

To help you prolong its use, each piece of coir matting comes with a detailed maintenance guide.
