Dark Brown Coir Matting - Cut to Size

From £23.50

This Dark Brown 17mm thick PVC-backed coir matting is hardwearing, absorbent, and long-lasting. Its strong brushing action effectively removes dirt from shoes, helping to protect your floors.

Our coloured coir matting is ideal for use in a mat well and is very easy to trim with a sharp knife. If your mat well is deeper than 17mm, simply place a piece of plywood of the appropriate thickness into the well and then place the mat on top. To minimise the risk of tripping, ensure the top of the bristles lies flush with the floor.

Further Information
Coloured Coir Matting is best used indoors, where the colour can be chosen to complement your décor to give a very stylish finish. We do not recommend using a PVC backing finish coir outdoors where it may get wet, and the colour may possibly run. For sheltered outdoor use, a better option is to go for a woven-backed coir mat.

Please note all coloured PVC-backed coir are produced from natural un-dyed coir (coconut fibres), these fibres are brown in colour. The coir is then dyed with the desired colour. As there are differences in the various coir fibres, this does mean that the dye can take in varying amounts to the fibres. This is just the nature of the natural fibres, and something we are unable to control.

FAQs

Here are some commonly asked questions about our dark brown coir matting.

What is the difference between natural and brown coir?

The primary difference between the natural and the dark brown colour of coir lies only in the colour. All of our Coloured PVC Backed Coir is made from our Premium Grade. Unlike many other coloured coir mats, they are mainly sprayed dyes meaning over time the colour will wear off. Our coloured coir mats the entire colour fibres are dyed before being embedded into its PVC backing. So the colour goes all the way through the fibre. At Coir Mats, we use coir for its superior durability and excellent brushing action, ideal for removing dirt from shoes and protecting floors. This makes our dark brown coir matting a long-lasting and practical choice for high-traffic areas.

How do I choose a quality doormat?

Choosing a quality doormat involves considering longevity, effectiveness, and environmental impact. Coir mats, made from natural coconut husk fibres, are superior to synthetic options given their ability to trap dirt and absorb some level of moisture. Unlike synthetic materials, coir is eco-friendly and biodegradable, reducing your environmental footprint. Additionally, coir mats have a classic, natural appearance that complements various home décors and can also be dyed to a range of colours, making them an excellent choice for those seeking both functionality and style.

What is the difference between a jute mat and a coir mat?

The main difference between a jute mat and a coir mat lies in its material and durability. Jute is a long, shiny, rough bast fibres that are woven together to produce thinner softer underfoot mats that are usually used for tea-pea or comping mats. We use jute to tie our hand-stitched coir mats together. However, it is less durable and thus exclusively for indoor use. On the other hand, coir mats consist of a coconut fibre mat backing with PVC, providing excellent durability and dirt-scraping abilities. Coir mats are ideal for indoor use, effectively keeping your entrance area clean while withstanding heavy foot traffic. Our coir mat range comes in a range of thicknesses to suit a range of areas and matwell/recesses.
